I found a couple posts on this but hope someone can help me figure out the numbers. After waking up to our 3rd power outage in 4 months Id like to get a UPS for one of my pumps. Cant decide if I should run my sicce 2.0 (says 35 watts) or one of my powerheads a tunze 6040. Anyways if the numbers on a UPS says:
650 volt-amperes
360 watts
490 joules
Which number do I use to calculate for example how long it would typically run my sicce 2.0? Or am I missing the number I need? Thanks
Theres another one:
450 volt-amperes
260 watts
890 joules
Is there a formula to use?

Cant help with the calculation, but I think most UPS units are built to give you time to save files before your computer shuts down, not to serve as a long term power source. Perhaps consider a generator instead, way more bang for your buck, I think.

Unfortunately I dont have a garage or place to keep a generator at the moment. Plus 2 of the outages I was not home for.

there is no real exact formula as brand/batteries used play a large role. if u are looking at a specific UPS model, most manufacturers have charts online that show how long you can expect it to run on a given watts load.

How long does your power usually go out for? If just an hour or two, then a UPS with just a single pump would be sufficient. I would just get the largest one I could afford.

watts/12 = amps
battery capacity/amps = run time

Amps. How many amps is the battery? I can figure this for you. Also the power source if you have a brand selected so I can calculate the efficiency of the battery type. Sicce will be an estimate but I will try to go on the high side as in worst case.

To your volt amp (va) is their equivalent to mAh basically you get about a 75 min at 35 Watts on 650 VA typically these are designed for two things brownouts which is where the power just drops partially which can fry a computer and blackouts so that your computer can shut down properly so they're only really designed to have a computer run 5 to 10 minutes while shutting down however was such a light load they can run a pump and a heater for quite some time I would suggest a company called APC you can go on their website and enter the amount of Watts and it will tell you how long the power supply you looking at will run

Thanks, my work gave me an old APC that they dont use anymore. Ill get it home and see if it still works and what size it is
