Hello all,

I'm really dumb at electronics stuff, but anyway, I'd like to purchase a UPS for my system. Since it is a FOWLR, the only thing I'd like to keep running are my wavemaker(s), probably only the Jebao SOW-15 just to make sure that there's oxygen exchange in my tank. Anyone who could suggest to me what a good UPS system would be to keep it running? I plan to run it intermittently (maybe run it for 20 minutes every hour or so). Hoping it would last a day or two. Any ideas?

I have a UPS attached to a wavemaker. It lasts about 4 hours after power goes out.

Whatever you do end up with make sure to test it out first at least once. Maybe twice. This way you get an idea of how much time you have based on what you have plugged in. May also give you some options.

I run a Cyberpower 1500 on my 65g tank and run my skimmer, wavemaker and return. Even with a program to run them all for the first 30 mins and then 10 mins on and 20 mins off after that I can only get about 3-4 hours life out of it. The setup is simple and it is very effective but won’t give you days of life. You would get longer than I do with just a single wavemaker, but I doubt you could stretch it past 12 hours even with a configuration like mine.

If you need to protect against longer outages then I feel you need a different, or additional, solution, e.g. generator or bank of deep cycle marine batteries.

Thanks for all your inputs, I've read about some sine wave thing (and have no clue what it is), but is it advisable to have the UPS at sine wave?

BRS talks a little bit about battery backups here. I think the issue is if your pump is AC vs DC and the amount of energy used to convert the power to what the device uses.
