UPS is terrible

Social distancing orders vary by state, and they are absolutely still open for business at my local shipping center. I always find it odd when people try to 'correct' someone on the internet, based on third hand rumors.

But yes, absolutely, check with your local rules first. Where I live FedEx is still open for business as normal.

You also laughed at my post. Not cool

Your post was a blanket statement. You didn't note and social distancing, did not note any risks, you didn't note any regional limitations. You used the word and I quote "ALWAYS" It deserved correcting. I noted that it violates most social distancing orders, which means not all.

But even without the government not ordering you, that doesn't mean going to a shipping facility for a non-essential pick up isn't putting yourself and their staff at an unnecessary risk. '

I had responded to you post with respect and offered a reasonable explanation for readers to consider the risks of doing face to face pick ups of non-essential deliveries. I would trust that counter arguments from this site would be more respectful.

The advice you gave is outright awful depending on where you live, and generally questionable for non-essential deliveries.

My ups man must be a saint, probably tired of delivering to my house over the past month but a good dude. I was thinking of leaving him a good tip for his service. USPS on the other hand is ****, Just about every parcel is delivered a day late based on their tracking app. The one that bothered me was the Refugium kit from Algae Barn.

I don’t like it but due to Corona virus it is what it is. Face it we are all spoiled because of Prime Shipping but This exposes the drawback of internet shopping and it will pass. I would shop more locally if locations carried more of the product I was looking for.

Times are tough it comes down to how each individual handles the current situation to get out of it. Was shipping a couple things FedEx and the last drop off time changed by about an hour after I spend all day assuring when to drop it off. Had to unpack and repack everything the next day. Nothing I can do

I understand packages get lost, misplaced, or damaged. It has happened to me a few times and I was equally frustrated.

But before we bash a company or the people working for them, we as reefers should take some responsibility and utilize common sense. Many online retailers have stopped online livestock delivery’s specifically for this reason. With millions of people staying home, online orders and products being shipped to homes have increased substantially. Many of those service men and women are working over time, away from there families, dealing with the stresses of this “COVID-19” pandemic all because they are “essential”

Ups is always better then fedex for me. We have to remember that shippers make mistakes. That map of where your package is located comes from an automatic system that most likely thought your package was loaded on the truck when I in actuality it was on the wrong truck or at the hub. I worked at ups and one day when I wasnt paying attention I loaded and scanned 350 packages heading for California in a truck going to Colorado at Christmas time. I'm sure after that many companies stopped using UPS when It was just my dumb mistake. People got tracking updates that they would get a package that was heading to the wrong state.

That is clearly the fault of UPS. In a sorting facility, they literally have to scan packages that arrive, and then scan them to a truck with each truck being identified in the scan as well. A lot of it is being done automatically on a belt system but that it still requires a person to load it from the belt to the truck. Your package was clearly scanned to that truck and then laid off to the side by someone.

That being said, like everyone else here these shipping companies are just completely over loaded and worked with the current state of things. I haven't seen any online vendors shut down as of yet, but they do clearly have statements saying to expect delays. Hopefully with livestock in consideration, the vendor is properly preparing and packing for those delays as well.

You repeatedly call my helpful advice 'awful' or imply that it's not true, then play the respect card? Ok. This has clearly hit a nerve and I'll walk away.

The most aggressive response is not always the correct one.

Exactly my point. You can’t tell me that the ups driver is “prioritizing”. If anything, they’re picking easier packages to deliver. As for the social distancing, really? Drivers interact with people all day. People that ship stuff have to go to the ups facility. If anything, you’re making it easier for the ups driver and he won’t have to come in contact with a possibly contaminated box.
They do not. Everything seems delayed.

I guess some former ups drivers are just chiming in abhorring facts that make them look bad because nobody likes it when people talk smack about their company ;Hilarious

Agreed, I really don't how the driver himself is prioritizing, or why would they? How are they supposed to know what's inside the box. The only feasible way I see is for the entire facility to lets say delivery everything to the local hospital first, and deal with all home deliveries last. That would be the correct priority in my mind.

I've talked smack about the company myself in the past, but this is not the right time. The world is on fire... if a fish doesn't make it then a fish does't make it. People are not making it. If anyone needs a wet pet urgently - then the risk is on you and not the drivers.

I agree that all delivery drivers out there making sure goods & services limp along are among the heroes that are helping us masses cope- this has nothing to do with the drivers or the call centers- this has everything to do with their program that is linked into tracking packages... at some point they knew it wasn’t on the truck and the algorithm continued to show that there was no issue, stating to me that it was almost here- they give consumers the option to “follow their delivery” so what was I expected to think or do? I would have been fine with going and picking up the item, mask in hand. What is the point of a tracking system that is built down to the item level that is not tracking items and just doing a “virtual scan” and implying a false sense of everything being ok? This false sense & my trust in what was being falsely advertised led to my delayed action to help solve the issue. This program was in place before the pandemic and will be in place afterwards- It will always tell you it’s all good even when it is not. It needs to be fixed.

My initial post started with "please do not do that" address to readers, and I went on the explain why without any negative remarks to you or the advice (let the readers decide). I assume you had not thought through how your advice did not consider the pandemic.

In the second post. When you defended how good your advice was, I chose to be specific.

It is awful advice ranging from taking unnecessary risks to flat out violation of many state orders.

You didn't hit a nerve. You just posted a blanket statement that is bad for much of the country. It's OK. I'm sure I made my point and confident that you are now aware that for much of the country, letting the delivery guy drop of the packages is the wiser choice for the time being .

The senders let the shipping company know.

I am not aware of any software or a platform that was designed to deal with what the world is dealing with today. Sorry to disappoint you.
