That's only about 4-5 hours from where he's talking, but good advice (side note: healthy pets has a great deal on sand/live rock this week, it's on their facebook).
There's a bunch of reef stores in that area, cannot speak to fish stores. I like Coral Dudes which is near Pittsford. I stop by when I visit family.

Coral Dudes is mostly online sales, so they're not open much (I think only on weekends). But the owner lives close by, and they are, of course, there packing things all the time. So they may be able to open up for you if you're in the area.

Have u been to coral dudes lately? According to saltwater scammers they went down pretty hard with their online sales....

Just ran across this. I have had some good luck with LFS in this area. Caribbean Forest in Rochester is where i have bought a few of my fish, most recent a sweet melanarus wrasse. Ive also worked a lot with the coral dudes. I'm sure you are aware of the turbulence there. For the Buffalo area I have been to a reef creation which is right next to the airport along with buffalo coral reef. I have not had a lot of dealing with either but both seem pretty legit!
