Should I worry that he has some white spines or are they just "new" spines and its normal?

He is new to my tank, maybe week and a half to 2wks. He is roughly 2-2.5in in diameter not including spines. I just want to make sure its not a stress signal or something. He cruises just fine around the tank and everything.

Yes to both thats like the cleanest part of tank he is on right here. I have hair algea goin coralina growing everywhere (rocks sand and glass)

I scrap glasd frequently but twnd to leave "patches" for my algea eaters especially on back wall of tank

Not sure then looks fine to me apart from the white bits, is it pooping what looks like little sand balls, be interesting to see a pic if it goes on the sides or front of the glass to see the mouth and suckers as well as the white spines.

Wish i could put up vids. He is looking good and moves well and what not. I dont see amy spines of sand bed like that would have fallen off of him but its a 100gal take woth a ton of rock amd sand so i moght just not see it. Ill get a pic of him om glass to see mouth/sucker

Is that a regular black longspine? I had mine for 4 years and never saw any other color than black. When it was stressed, it would lose spines (almost like it was shedding), but never had different colors. Similar to the underneath side, that was mostly black as well. Some of the tentacles were white/translucent, but for all intents and purposes, the whole thing was black

The LFS said it was a normal long spine. They are telling me its just "normal" color variations. Hes not losing spines and looks to be fine. Guess ill just watch him

I think it is a normal variation. Did a google image search and came up with this one.

He zooms all over the place and hasnt lost spines so guess i can stop worrying and just enjoy his addition to the tank
