Currently transferring these guys over to another tank and I noticed this on the hammer. Is it brown jelly or something else?

This is what it looks like normally, nice and fluffy. It’s just close cause the tank lights were already off

Does the brown stuff blow off with a turkey baster ? If not I would say it’s not brown jelly and I definitely wouldn’t toss the corals that would be overreacting

If you truly worried about it being BJD , there is a thread about dosing cipro in display tank to combat

BJD kills off corals quick as in 24 hours. Yours does not appear to be BJD. Coral stress is the cause of BJD due to bad water parameters typically. If you see die off and suspect it is BJD run a big bag of carbon and check your water parameters.

Personally, I have taught bjd for ages, doesn’t really look like it unless it blows off easily. Bjd also causes the mouths to open widely and the coral with expel its zooanthal before deteriorating.

Does Bjd form or grow? Or does the coral just turn to jelly? I’ve seen SPS where the skin is melting off or if you wiggle the coral the skin jiggles. Is this Bjd or the start of it?

Meh, think of it as the coral turning to soup right on top of the skeleton! Mine started from a little recession in the corner turning into a bacterial infection with gaping mouth then in 2 hours the whole coral was laced with jelly, almost look like it was covered in gravy

Looks like tissue recession from something else. Skeleton being exposed and subsequent algae growth.

I’ve got The Stones ‘Brown Sugar’ tune in my head this morning…. But I’m substituting with Brown Jelly!
