Is it possible for flukes to survive on fish for 3 plus months without showing any symptoms? I bought a regal angelfish from LiveAquaria DD and it was in my QT with cupramine for 80 days at from the range of .4-.7 the entire time. He ate like a pig from day 1 and I placed him in my DT 8 days ago. He is the 1st fish in the tank since running 80 days fallow from ich. The regal has been picking at everything. I had a ton of visible pods on the back of the tank in the algae and these are now all gone. But he hasn't been eating the frozen food I've been giving him? He is yawning and small body twitch one in a while. Is it possible that he satisfied from the natural food source in the tank and that's why he isn't eating the frozen food?

There is no visible signs of spots anywhere on his body. He is swimming normally and picking at the algae and rocks. I want to add my gem tang that has been sitting in QT for 5 weeks but want to make sure there isn't something going on here.

Please let me know your thoughts...

Yawning and twitching is a symptom of flukes. I would catch him and do a FW dip. Has everything in your DT been QT’ed? Is it possible the flukes were already in your DT?

Never mind I missed the part about 1st fish since fallow period.

They couldn't be in the tank since it fallow for 80 days. No addition of wet items. He is the only fish in the tank and all fish have been QT. Still there as a matter of fact. I have had the regal for 3 months and prior to that he was at Live aquaria Diver Den facility being QT'd. would symptoms have shown up during that period if he had flukes?

If the DT was fallow for 80 days, and the fish was in QT with copper the entire time, it's likely that copper suppressed the flukes and now that the fish is out of copper it's showing up.

The symptoms you describe sound in line with what you'd typically see with flukes. If the fish can't be easily removed from DT I would go ahead and use prazi in DT.

Regals are very sensitive and once they stop eating it's very difficult to get them to come back. Time is of the essence on this one for sure.

I hear you! I have a ton of corals. Is it safe for them as well? He will be very hard to catch. Also want to clarify that he has been grazing like crazy and all the pods in the back of my tank are gone. He is swimming like normal and the yawning/twitches are not often.

Let me know

I don't have any SPS in my main DT. Softies and LPS and I have used prazipro in DT exactly per instructions without issue.

If you have feather duster or ornamental worms then you may not want to because you will lose them.

@HotRocks @Frtdrmrose7

My regal started eating aggressively again today. He has also been super active all day. My question is, do fish that have flukes tend to improve?

I did prepare his QT today but really don't want to put him through all the stress if I he doesn't have flukes and I almost feel I am being super paranoid due to my past experience with Ich.

His yawning and jerking doesn't happen often BUT I obviously want to get him treatment if necessary. I also want to note that the yawning and jerking behavior is in his cave. Not sure if its hermits and shrimp surprising him or he is trying to be dominate and establish his territory.

Appreciate your feedback.

Okay I am done now.... lol
