Hi im new here and this is my first post, sorry for seeking help before any contribution.

I have kept tropical fish for many years, from mbu puffers to rays, asian arowanas to bettas and most stuff in between.

My current tank, a fluval evo, is my first solo attempt at salt water and i have encountered my first real problem.

The tank was set up at the end of Jan and was cycled using a chunk of prawn left to decay, and the full cycle took around 5 weeks. Since then the tank sat until mid march when i added 2 trochus and 1 cerith snail. The tank then sat with minimal maintenance other than a few water changes and ro top ups.

All was fine until about a week or so ago when i noticed this algae starting to form, at first i thought it may just be a mini cycle kicking in again, or i needed more of a CUC.

Fast forward to Friday i added 2 false percular clowns after having my water tested by myself and then a conformation test done at the LFS.

Parameters where as follows
Temp 25.8
Nitrate 0
Nitrite 0
Ammonia 0
SG 1.025
Ph 8.1

Since then my cerith has gone missing and this algae seems to be getting worse. My worry is that its Dinos.

As for filtration i am running
Filter floss
Activated Carbon
ROWA Phos guard
And
A small bag of ceramics in the bottom

I will attach photos of the algae, any help will be much appriciated

Regards

Dave

Sorry to say but you have Dino’s. My guess is your water is to clean and it fuels them by looking at your posted levels.

Thank you for the reply, even though it was the news i was dreading.

What do you suggest my best corse of action is

Thank you for the reply and the welcome.

Ive been reading through a great thread all about dinos but it looks like this could be one heck of a job.

How safe are my clowns?

It was the 0 nitrate that made me get a conformation test done by the LFS.

Im guessing that water changes should be left for now

**Update**

I have just siphoned the sand and rock work through a filter sock, scrubbed the rocks while in the tank and added more filter floss to chamber 2 to catch any debris coming through. The siphoned water was added back to the tank through a clean filter sock.

There seems to be left behind what looks like cotton strands on the rock work and the filter wool is browning up already.

On a plus note my cerith is still alive, found him while cleaning the sand bed
