Urgh seriously.

Lol that’s funny I would so get beat on that one. I can’t remember the last time I said a cuss word unless dangit (or aka darnit but the normal version is one. I accidentally said a bad word once has a child lol. Wow did my parents get after me lol. My mom bought some of those tootsie pops and I loved them. So when I was like 5 I think maybe 4 I asked
My mom, “can I have one of the little suckers (only said the f word) and she goes Sarah what did you say and i said “mom you know those little suckers (only the f word) you suck on all the time”. Lol my parents have never let me live that day down. My parents literally flew off the handle lol, as my dad was cracking up while trying to scold me lol, I was sent to my room, and had to sit on my bed. Then my mom spoke to me (as she tried to not laugh), and said that every time time I say a bad word it would make the bad word monsters come out. Then they would wrap me up like a mummy in Scooby doo and swing me from the ceiling to scare all the other little kids away. They are so mean lol, it was honest mistake lol but haven’t said any. Yes I still check my bed for monsters randomly at night. :)
glad ya didn't ask for a sucker and a fire truck!when we were kids we use to make my little brother say it. that's probably why he cusses like a sailor to this day.

Hello,

@mike werner lol us youngsters so get the bad rap lol. My middle brother always always messes with me, drove me crazy. My oldest brother is a sweetie but has fun with me. I remember I skipped a grade and became a sophomore instead of a freshman in highsxhool and I was extremely naive and overly shy, and way younger than anyone else. But my older brother told me I had to push a penny with my nose. That if I didn’t push a penny with my nose I had to carry all the books for every senior. I was terrified lol of course he kept it with his group of friends lol. The first day he found me and brought me to their senior hall and introduced me. Of course it was a plan to push a penny with my nose. What he actuslly did was glued it to the floor lol. So after I was pressured to try I almost broke into tears, which he finally said he was only messing with me. But the good part is his friends looked out for me. So it was worth it lol (dumb penny).

Powdered donuts. I once was involved in a powdered sugar fight at Morning Call in New Orleans. Nothing better than hot beignets coated with powdered sugar and a big cup of New Orleans coffee. There is always major overkill with the powdered sugar piled on the plate, so there was plenty of ammo. We may have had a few adult beverages prior to the first handful of sugar flying, but soon about a dozen of us were covered from head to toe. It was epic! Our waiter was taking pictures and laughing his head off. :D

Hello ,

So as some know I was kinda lol dumb and added a third light to my tank. Most of my lps have responded very positive to me removing that third light. It’s come to a stronger conclusion that well one if I had just left it alone things would be grand. But more on point it makes my argument stronger that changing lights on a tank where corals are use to them can be actually bad. When I moved my lfs took care of my corals in a tank that has been up probably longer than I have been alive but at least half my life lol. The corals in that tank that had been in there for awhile looked amazing. My corals the ones that survived didn’t look great at all and were barely clinging to life and they were under solid t5 from led. After my new 240 cycled which was close to 6-8 weeks within about a week my corals back under my leds responded very well.

Now even though I added the same light, which was 33% more light I still turned down all three to try and have the same intensity. Did it work, nope, not really. Most of my lps would not open up even on the bottom of the tank. Only after removing the third light within a week time frame did they go back to normal. Sps stsyed mostly the same but a few started to show some color change (and not for the better).

It would be interesting to see or conduct a study on coral environments versus animal environment and human changes. Even animals and humans have shown negative and positive change to environmental changes. Some animal examples are those animals that are endangered seem to have a harder time breeding in captivity, (but also all animals) has it been done yes, but how common is it? We have seen with certain animals mammals do very poorly in captivity, which is a change in their life style (clearly huge). Even humans seem to act to small changes positively and negatively.

But going back more to corals, we all know they are very sensitive critters and very small swings in water parameters will mean life and death for some incmding the fish. If water parameters have this drastic efffect, why wouldn’t change of lights have the same effect?

I do not disagree with anything you said. In the case of your corals though, they really hate sudden changes. I would bet that they just needed time to adjust to the extra light. I think if you had lowered the intensity of the fixtures and let them acclimated you would be seeing better results with your SPS.

Are you suggesting we should glue you to a rock next to a coral and see which of the 2 of you is happier while changing lighting every month for 3 months? o_O

That would be one way of cutting back her hours at work. :-)

Loving this thread and have been binging through pages and pages just to catch up. For what it’s worth...you ADDED 50% more light fixture (2 + 50% = 3) and then you removed 33.3% of the fixtures (3 - 33.3% = 2) when you went back to 2 lights. The actual light intensity depends on the settings of each light so if you adjusted the settings as if you added 33.3% fixture then you may have increased the lighting and upset your corals otherwise the only difference would have been better light spread and less shading and I can’t figure how that threw your coral into such a hissy fit.
Peeing in the tank = No problem. A little more light = Sudden death & sadness. There definitely is a delicate balance to this hobby. Just take small steps.

Lol omg please super glue me to a rock with my pillow and blankey for the next year. Maybe I will get a tan and catch up on sleep.

@Foothill Corals I did turn the lights down which I believe I was at 45% before the third light and 30 after. I also put them in acclimation mode and my lps reacted quicker than my sps. When I placed the lights I did try and find the sim and cosine and critical angel as well. Im also had my nitrates at 20 ppm which the sps actually liked but my lps hated seems backwards I know. I have now gotten my nitrates back down to about 5 ppm and my lps show great signs and most of the sps are doing good. I still have those few sps that strong from when my salinity went through the roof (bevause my lol father didn’t realize the word salt meant salt water and my topped my tank off with five gallons of salt water instead of rodi. So because the water evaporated, the salinity was already high adding five galloks of fresh salt water killed three sps in 9 hours. The ones that survived have lost color but now that things are normal they should bouce back.

@Fin and @Brew12 when are we schedule to glue me to a rock or my couch bed anything lol.

Hello,

So after my tanks rough two weeks, losing three sps but saving most of my tank here are some results. Some still show tissue loss but all the top polyps are out and some are definitely fighting to stay with it. Wondering should I frag now and try and wait it out both are mass colonies. There is one where I know it’s in the death yard but some of it shows it may come back.

But this just shows what happens when we change things because we are bored or go hey let’s do this with out sleeping on it :) so my 240 is now 9 or 10 months old so it’s coming along nicely as long as I well leave it alone lol

Nice! I love Naso Tangs, but have not had one since my 200 (about 25 years ago). My tanks have been too small since then to get another one. Looks like things are stabilizing nicely. Now if we can only talk you into an auto topoff... ;)

The tank is looking great. I will say along with light is flow. SPS for example will grow in a shape to maximize the flow they are in. Changing that or moving them around a lot is not a good thing.

Hello,

So it looks like even though my house is set at 70 degrees my tank was at 81 degrees. Checked both heaters and turned them down to 75. They were set at 78, maybe that was a cause for losing some of my sps as well.

Not terribly high, but could be a factor, along with the salinity going up and down with large top offs. Is a controller sounding better to you yet? ;)

Lol @Fin I didn’t have my Bluetooth hooked
Up yet and was relying on my heaters to be a little more accurate and my house temp at 70. I did drop some ice in there and lol now sadly I feel like Martha Stewart (before she went to prison)
