Urgh seriously.

Space Balls is such a great movie!

I love my Mitras light fixtures and I do supplement with T5's. In some ways I regret going with the T5 supplements but it is working well enough for now. I think this winter I may change it up and go from 2 of the Mitras to 4 and lose the T5's. My biggest issue is how to mount them since I don't have a canopy and my tank has a top eurobrace. I have to hang them from the ceiling and that will require me to either fabricate or have built a custom holder.

As for the hair... my wife struggles with the same thing. I love her hair long and reasonably short so I encourage her to do what she wants with it. If you are nervous about it, cut 8" to 12" off and see how you feel. If you still like it, try cutting more off in another month or 2.

Lol omg @Fin you crack me up lol. What you don’t think wet dog would look good on me lol. I’m certain that as I dunk my head in the tanks, you would be the first to throw a few apples in. May as well bob for apples as well lol.
I am thinking the bobbing for apples in the tank idea would be another good subject for a video posting. :-). This thread really is all over the place, but amusing. :-)

If I came over, could I bob for corals?

On to more serious matters, I like LONG hair. My own hair reached down to my waist in my younger days. That said, I would agree that you should go slow. Cut a good amount and see how you feel before going real short.

Lol @Fin sorry I’m one of those girls who is like who squirrel:), I do try to keep it with in the scope and most of the time (sheepish grin) it is. At the same time I don’t want to bore poor people to death, I’m suppose to save lives (literally lol). I don’t think I could do a video, because even my die hard flip phone is not water proof. But knowing my luck which has been just one of those days today, I would fall head first.

@NY_Caveman lol you can always bob for corals, but you must use your teeth, no hands of any kind, no tools, and no snorkel either :).

On the side before I go Into my new tank, does anyone who has kids allow them to play their music in the car? Good grief, my niece loves this crazy frog cd, and now she did something to the CD player in my Jeep, and now no matter what I do it only plays crazy frog. I’m going crazy, literally lol dumb frog .

So I was think that I could use four of the Mitras 7 should be plenty of light since there are six pucks per fixture, or would one run I guess 8 (eeek). The tank dimensions will be 96x32x32 Which will be close to 425 gallons. I did go with the top over flow, but for the love of gummie bears I can’t think of the name.

The next thing I need to consider is the proper size sump. I was thinking between 90-125 but leaning on 125 since, I have access to one of those now. But I’m curious if my two current dc pumps which are 3100 gph, would work well, or since I can daisy link them, run 3 or 4? Current suggested three, and of course I’m going to run, the same four wave makers I have now (meaning I’ll buy four more, but Urgh as much as I don’t want to) I may have to get either a couple mp60 or a few mp 40s. I still think the 60s are just too strong and extremely over priced. Any other possible suggestions as I work through this lol.

Also sorry sqirrel again, two things lol, I did find a used semi water truck for sale today hmmmmmmm. Secondly my niece found out I was going to cut and or aka trim my hair, and she threw a huge fit. I guess it’s a small trim for now lol. But any help on the equipment would be awesome, plus I was also thinking of stax rocks. I adore how @120reefkeeper did his rock work. It would be awesome in a 400 size tank, where I can also kinda conceal the wave makers.

Could you use some cheap fluorescent T5's on either end of the new 400 for now, and get just one or two decent puck lights for the center?
Can't guarantee that will save you money in the long run but it would be one place to temporarily save money.

Side note.
Love long hair, but I'm not the one that has to live with it and maintain it.

Lol, can't stand when my own is longer than half an inch.

Sarah, you might want to start a planning / build thread for the new tank in "Member Tanks," or better yet, "Large Aquariums 180g+" forum. Someone putting together a 400 gallon will attract more attention and probably plenty of interest from others that have big tanks. This is kind of a different animal putting together a tank this size. Don't stop this thread, but you might get better information beginning to run with the big (wet) dogs, so to speak. :)

A flip phone, really???

@Fin lol hey if you have read my whole novel here lol I took pics of said flip phone, and the new stupid iPhone lol that’s still in the box. Yes it may be a flip phone, but at least my phone I can leave on top of my Jeep:). Then as I drive down the road and flies off and bounces off a few car windows, then hits the road a few times lol guess what:) my phone will still work. Let’s see you try that with your 900 dollar iPhone :)

How on earth did I miss that? LOL!

Ummmm @Fin lol you found more interest in my tank than my flip phone lol, and rightfully so, very glad that you did. :)

Hello,

Sooo I had to respond to an emergency this morning and I have to work 24 hours. In the process I was feeding my fish, and had my wave makers turned off. Welllllll I forgot to turn them back on yikes. The two returns are still running so there is flow, but do I need to have someone to turn them on?

The fish and coral should be fine. The most important thing is the heat/chiller and oxygenation from the skimmer. If those are working with the return pumps everything should be ok.

Hello dear friends,

So I have had a crazy crazy busy week wow. I put in 88 hours this week at work, and finally have days off for the holiday. First thing is first I’m going to meet up with my dear friend Mr. Sleep and really spend some quality time with him.

Well actually I did get a tad bit, but yay finally installed my third current orbit marine pro. Wow, we have some light spread now lol. Of course I turned the brights down to 55% and kept blues at 100%. I’m curious if this will increase my par at all, I have heard yes and no. I mainly wanted the spread because they are 60 degree lens, and my tank is 24 inches wide. It does look much brighter lol which is good,
Not sure if I should turn them down more, suggestions anyone?

Now also this week I’m going to do the re wire so I can run all my stuff on the Bluetooth. Now here is a question, I have three lights, two return pumps, four wave makers, one protein skimmer, two heaters, one phosphate reactor, one sump light, one uv sterilizer. My tank sits against one main wall where I have power strips, four to be exact. There are two outlets, on the wall etc. I’m curious if I’m close to overloading the circuit. How would I know, (I have not blown a fuse on anything, or tripped the breaker in the main box thingy that runs the whole house. What do most people do with larger systems that has like 15 things to plug in?

Calculate the max Watts all the equipment can generate. Lights and heaters are the big ones. Then divide by 120 V and you will get the current in Amps. I am guessing your breakers are 15A but maybe 20A.

For example, my system will max at 528W which is 4.4A.

And be sure to add anything non tank related on the same circuit. Obviously.

So for example my three lights, and two return pumps are 150 watt power supplies. So that would be 150x5 is 750 /120 which is like 6.25 amps. Holy Scooby snacks that’s a lot for only five items, lol now I’m worried.

Not really. Most other equipment is pumps or pump based which are fairly low Wattage. Chillers are big Wattage. Not sure about the UV.

Good thing you are young. Working more than two weeks worth of hours in one week's time is a lot of hours. I am assuming you can grab short power naps during 24 hour shifts? I hope so. How are we all supposed to enjoy this thread if you are working all the time? :-)

If you are concerned about not having enough power, you could get an electrician to run another circuit from your breaker box to somewhere close to your tank. I have three 20A circuits around mine. also on those power strips - make sure you have drip loops on all your cords and you don't have any way that water can run down the cord to those power strips.

You'll love the 96" foot print. I have a 96" and wish I would have pushed it out to 120".

Lol oh thanks for that now I have to consider new dimensions lol.

@Fin lol I am definitely gonna try and cut back some I’m exhausted. But I do most of my posts st work when it’s slow or I have food breaks. But I will always keep my lovely funny thread going. It’s my duty to make people smile and just laugh a little and love life.
