Urgh seriously.

I thought I was the only one that took a year or so to get their new tank going. Setting up a new saltwater tank is such an understatement now a days. Especially if you want it done correctly.
You make it sound challenging!

I started draining my 120g system early on a Saturday morning. By Sunday night my 187g was up in its place with all the fish in it. You guys are such slackers!

You say that like it is a bad thing to be a slacker. :)
You're right. I'm jealous!!!

And I will say that I will never try to swap out a tank that quickly again. That was brutal!

Hello,

Hmmm well @Brew12 lol since your so speedy, wanna come do my 400:). I am dreading the setup, but so gonna love it once it’s done. Besides I could learn from a pro :) (jk) and even better lol as you show me how to do this, you know cause I’m a visual kinda girl, I will sit on my couch, with some lemonade, and I promise to keep my mouth shut and let you show me:). (Sorry lol I so had to, but it took me forever due to school, work, and everything else, still no excuse).

Umm... no.. no I don't! :p

I hurt for days having to carry all of those 5 gallon buckets to drain the one tank and fill the other. Never again!

I will sit on my couch, with some lemonade,

Lemonade is even better when you add Tanqueray! ;)

Hello,

So some how I thought I mentioned this here but guess now. They are about to build my tank, but they are out 14-16 weeks soooo they said by the end of September or possibly October. As far as that seems, it’s just around the corner so much planning to do. I have ideas on what I’m going to do, I need to figure out what size sump tank I need, as well as where to get it or made. I have an option to either buy their stand and or build one. If I build one, could you see me as the new home improvement girl lol.

Hello,

I could see that. Heck, you can do everything else - except maybe learn how to use a smart phone. :-):-):-)

Hello,

First, please forgive me if I posted this in the wrong section, but I have never had this happen before and I am panicking.

So I have a 240 gallon tank with a 75 gallon sump tank. To be nice I let my brother and his children stay in my home for this week. (Long story) I just came home and found out that my nephews have been urinating in my sump tank. I don’t know how long they have been doing it, how often. I came home and caught my 5 year old nephew red handed.

I immediately shut down my return pumps, and shut the union valves underneath off and shut all flow from the tank to the sump off completely. I have no idea how much has already been sent into my main display tank, and how long. I’m doing a water test now to see where my parameters are now. I also have enough salt water stores to do 80 gallon water change.

The only thing I have added was I turned on my magnum 350 canister filter which there are two of them. One is a purification filter (it’s white) and the second is a straight carbon only. Any thing else I should be doing, I’m worried about my fish and corals.

Thanks
You'll be fine. Urine is rich source of nitrates and phosphates the first 24hrs. After that starts turning to Ammonia. He did you a favor and feed your corals for a little while. LOL keep an eye on water perimeters. You'll be fine.

Hello,

Lol @Fin yeah just me and my black and decker drill and playskol hammer. I’m not sure I’d get super far with those but heck it can’t be too hard. I mean gosh it’s jusr s few loose screws here and there and there she sits :). Yes I hate smart phones they are so dumb. It’s kinds ironic my niece should me how to turn it on, and go into iTunes. She downloaded it and it wanted me to create a Facebook and I said nope. But we did get it to work, I guess it’s fun if your a kid lol. I had lots of fun with the kids but not sure I could do it on my own for fun.

So I will have a new batch of sps corals coming this Thursday yay, and it has a smurf something in it. I love the smurfs, they are so cool. Also I think I have decided with the ghl mitras xl7 series for lights in which I need three of them. Has anyone beta tested these or tried them etc? They are a tad cheaper than radions but they seem to have just ten times the light and function. Not certain on customer service yet, but we will find out soon enough lol. As far as the wave makers go and returns, I was think of doing 6 of the current 2100 gph or even 8 and then twin return pumps again. I’m not sure how many heaters I’ll need though I was thinking four. Good grief I’m gonna have such a huge power bill.

I use the Mitras LX7206's and love them.

I was pretty curious to know how this would turn out. I'm glad to hear that with some special care you can in fact keep a reef tank in a urinal :-). Great job with the recovery.

I'd think a tank that big,the pro built stand would have all kinds of room & look really nice. a 400gl tank ? One could use a 120 shallow for a sump ! Talk about room ! I'd like to know what huge return pump You would get.
What are your plans? Do tell us all we want to know !

Hello,

Well lol @Brew12 I definitely would love to more about them. I have vaulted ceilings so hanging them isn’t ideal lol cause I’m kinda short (even with a ladder). The rumour is they have an amazing sps program :).

@brett98xj lol ummm no, I make my niece and nephews use the toilet upstairs lol. However, I was gonna let them try the empty five gallon jugs I use for my salt Water and rodi but the toilet was just soooo much easier. Yes, I still want to throw twinkies at the architect who said hey two story house and all the bathrooms are upstairs great floor plan, NOT. What’s worse is well umm I was dumb enough to buy such a house

@cracker lol didn’t you hear about the new amazing sump, I found today wow!!!!! Well it’s almost 200 gallons, it is super spacey, extremely luxurious, and it has a new material, the staff called it umm oh porcelain. It has its own little seats in it, oh and like these high end controls, and it has all its own wave makers as well. It looks just like a nice jacuzzi tub :).
Sorry I had to, but just think, my sump tank is large enough for one to take a bath in, hmmmm May as well have a jacuzzi tub under there. I have no clue what I’m doing for a sump, some of them that I saw were between 900 and 1800 dollars for a sump. I’m thinking of a custom stand because the protein skimmers I’m looking at they won’t fit under the stock version. The one I have now will barley fit under there from the measurements they provided me.

As for the return pumps, I’ll probably use two of the current 3100 gph again. They are only running 15% now as is on my 240 with a 75 gallon custom sump. I may try something else but most of the bigger once are not dc and I am spoiled now on how quiet my tank is. Although so I don’t have to run 8 of the current wave makers, I have thought of maybe running 2 or the Ecotech mp60 but good grief they are so proud of them. They remind me of a company called snap-on (bought my older brother a tool, boy are they sure proud of their stuff geez). That’s what’s really holding me back is the price of their wave maker. From beta testing both (well mp40 and the currents I just don’t see it. The mp40 didn’t do any better than the current 2100 gph did). The good thing is I have some time to chew on things a tad. As I crunch numbers, I’m already close to 2700 for lights, this isn’t going to be cheap lol. What’s worse is I didn’t even buy the tank, as it was a gift. Still have to buy a stand but totally happy to do that obviously. Just as long as I can camp out underneath it every once in a while. Sure be nice to stuff a nice recliner in there, maybe a small table. Most of us spend so much time with our tanks, may as well camp out in them as well:).

Speaking of sumps (and not the porcelain kind) Elite Aquatics (Ogden, Utah) makes some very nice ones and will do custom orders (through his Facebook page). I think he quit selling direct on his web site because he now supplies other online vendors like Premium Aquatics, etc. You can look at some of the sumps he has made on his Facebook page. Tyler Christensen is the owner and is great to deal with. He built my 40" sump and I like to recommend him when I can. So, just a suggestion when you are shopping for sumps.

The lights are very customizeable. Programming them is fairly easy once you get the hang of it. I also run the Profilux 4 controller and GHL doser so they work almost seamlessly.

Although so I don’t have to run 8 of the current wave makers, I have thought of maybe running 2 or the Ecotech mp60 but good grief they are so proud of them.
2 MP60's won't be nearly enough flow in that tank. They are nice, but the tank is too long for 2 of them. As long as you don't mind monthly maintenance, I would go with a pair of these.

You can either buy one with the standard controller and one without or if you plan on buying a controller for the system you can get 2 pumps with 2 icecap controllers.

What’s worse is I didn’t even buy the tank, as it was a gift.
It is kinda like getting a vacation to Disney as a gift where all you get is the hotel room. You still have to pay for the travel, park tickets and food which costs more than the hotel room!

Good morning lol well where I’m at,

@NY_Caveman lol yes I must be insane for that also. Just think of my tanks break, I’m gonn have a flood identical to Noah’s ark. Doesn’t matter if it is 42 or 640 plus another 125 so 765 gallons, it would still be destructive to our homes. But that’s why I have flood insurance now on my home, since normal home insurance will not cover any damage from a fish tank, water heater, etc so lame. I still love your saying I received a box of rocks lol. I’m going to be getting lots of rocks. I’m thinking stax rocks for a lot of this, I still really like @120reefkeeper idea with them. But with this tank being 400 gallons give or take, it will take a lot of boxes. I will probably mix some love rock in as well, but at least I can sit in my tank and do it lol.

@Brew12 wow so that’s what brs stands for lol, neato. Those lights seem amazing, and wow two of those plus four current wave makers would probably work well. Eventually I will have a bigger tank than the local aquarium, or I can open my own:).

Ops wrong button posted before i was finished. That lovely edit button is so graceful:). @Fin thanks for the info I will definitely be seeking them out and getting more info. I want a sump that is easy yet defined lol, not something that is harder to maintain than my display tank.

Borrowing a picture from Elite Aquatics Facebook page... I think he can fix you up. :D
