Urgh seriously.

Oh lol I totally forgot to add some new full pics of the 240.
This is on cloudy acclamation and also on the lowest acclamation settings on all three lights.

Random question, but I noticed you have a school of Chromis. Have you encountered any aggression with them against each other? Any time I've ever attempted a school of them, they would be good for a bit, then eventually start picking on the weakest one. Once he was gone, they'd move on to the next weakest and so on until I had one left. I've probably attempted schooling them 3-4 times over the past 18 years in tanks ranging from 180-220G, but always with the same end result. Was curious if you've seen anything like this in your tank. Beautiful reef btw!

Lol @cracker you should be a comedian:). I only need to run just my small heater and one return pump. But my neighbors are super close, are these loud. I found one that was like 5500 Watts is that large enough?

Hello,

In regards to my blue/green chromis @tiggs I have not experienced any aggression at all. I have always used an odd number and I found seven was a nice good number and have never had problems. They do school but most of the time they split into singles or small groups. I do know that they were chased by my clowns quite a bit and they always stayed as a group then. Afterwards there have been a few minor minor fighting between them, but it’s kinda odd. When they do, the Lt. Tang always goes after the aggressive one. It’s super weird even when I added my bellus angel fish and the clowns would go after it, the Lt tang would just constantly go after the female clown. He would chase her till she went into the frogspawn that they host. But once there he would always stay next to it, or close to it and if she came out he would chase her back in. With the chromis, they had to hide in smaller rocks from him. That’s why he was promoted from Lt to major axxhole (if you have seen space balls that’s where the name came from). Since then I have had no aggression in my tank. What else do you have in your tank. And tank size isn’t a problem since you have a 220. Mine is a 240 and highly doubt that has anything to do with it.

Good morning

So lol power is still out and my neighbors so hate me now . They sadly called law enforcement 3 times to turn the generator off. They complained it was unfair that I have power and they don’t. As I showed them several times it was only running my salt water tank. I was threatened by law enforcement they could cite me for disturbing the peace during quiet hours. In which I turned it off after my small electric jump box charged. Which lol I had to turn the generator back on to charge and run the tank. Needless to say it’s been a very very long night. Good news is the power will be on by 11 am. Yay

I'm shocked that the police even responded to those complaints!!!
If noise is that big of an issue you can look into an inverter generator. They run much quieter.

Honda makes a very nice one.

Here is one that is normally more available at a lower price.

Hello,

@Brew12 lol yeah I know right, sadly it’s Idaho, there is not much for them to do here. For one never ever being in trouble, they sure were not kind or nice about it. In all honesty it wasn’t that loud, they lady always knocks either on my door, or the other neighbors etc. I try super super hard to always be nice, but it’s getting just ridiculous. I am definitely looking into those. Worse case I can sell the one I just purchased or see if I can return since it’s tooo loud and I won’t be able to run it. Yet, not sure I can because I did use it and I’m way to honest. But I need a back up plan for when my power goes out for hours.

The 420 is coming along nicely, I have chosen to use stax rocks for a neat idea and also some live rock. I don’t want use all dry rock because of cycling. Yet I can’t do what I want if the stax rock is wet. Will also had two gyre on the back glass for flow, along with 4 of the current wave makers. So it’s been a fun and slow process. :)

@Sarah24! - The last time I tried, it was around 10 years ago in my 180. The two things I've always heard were to keep an odd number and to have larger, more dominant fish in the tank so the Chromis would school for comfort and not pick on each other since they had larger tank mates to worry about, much like you just talked about. I believe that tank had a small Chevron Tang, a large Yellow Tang, and a show size Powder Blue Tang. Then I'm sure a few Anthias, a wrasse or two, and probably a Gobby and/or Blenny of some type. My aquascapes typically revolve around islands and ridges, with plenty of hiding spots and places to swim through the structure. This was a long time ago though, so I don't remember exactly lol. I guess I just have bad luck with Chromis, although the last guy standing always ended up getting huge and living a long healthy life.

Get a Honda or Yamaha. They are much quieter--I currently have the Honda EU2200. You can hear it on, but it's not intrusive at all.
+1

A regular generator is pretty loud.
But I can't believe your neighbors rationale was that it's not fair that you should have power when they don't.

The Honda is absolutely amazing in comparison.
Or just amazing period.
They are awesome. We use them for work all the time. They are still heavy, but one person can mostly handle them, move them around "easily". The sound is Maybe 35 DB?
About as loud as a normal running car sitting at idle. You can tell it exists, but no one has any reason to legitimately complain about it.

If the neighbors managed to complain about the Honda suitcase generator it is okay to ask the otherwise less than perfect brother to assist them with an attitude adjustment.

Hello friends,

I was going through my SIM card this morning and found some neat pics of my tank before it has coral and In the first stages. It can help lay the ground work of how my tank was started and came about.

Also now that the power is on yay I did return the other generator. I did explain exactly why and they honestly said that was something they hear a lot. That kinda surprised me, I just wasn’t sure because I had used it. But I did order the Honda and they will just have to I guess use ear plugs lol.

In looking at these pics I can see my tank has grown insane within 7 and 1/2 months. I hope my 400 has the same results as the 240. This is also the reason I don’t want to break it down and move it. I just really really like how it turned out and how well fish and corals are doing. I also didn’t know realize how many times I worked on my tank (setting it up) while in my looney tunes pjs. I was so excited I forgot to change lol.

Good morning ,

Today as been an interesting morning in a good way. I was asked to help come up with a quote (viable plan) for a salt water tank in the waiting room here at the hospital.

I figured since lol hospitals are sooooo expensive I guess we could go large right. At least some of the patients money will be well spent. (Aka 5500 a night for terrible food and a lousey small room is horrible). Initially I was thinking 500 gallons plus full reef tank, if I want the plan to survive not sink. There is no way they don’t have the money, just convincing them may be an issue, but I’m a super sweet talker . So any ideas are welcome and or plans similar to those running now works good.

So few updates, on my 240 I’m leaning towards removing the third orbit marine light. As much as I love it, the corals seemed much happier with two. (When has that ever happened right). So maybe when I finally get a day off working a 24 hour shift then having to go in for a 12 is just Urgh brutal. I so need to learn to drink coffee, as of the moment it’s still chocolate milk lol. I have also been kinda lazy and not fully set up the Bluetooth controller, I should probably do that lol.

So some more fun, I finally ordered the lights for my 400, which were the ............... (wait for it).............. of course the ghl mitras 7’s. I ordered three of them (it kinda hurt a little bit). The extra money I stuff into my fake fish for tank money and emergency stuff for the tank lol is lighter. The fish was saying feed me feed me feed me more.

Tank is still out till October, but was cslled and now possibly November, oh well. It means more time to plan right. So now the lights have been ordered, hmmmmm I can look at the skimmer and other equipment. Still need to find a stand solution, I’m just not thrilled with their idea. I’m pretty sure they can change it, or so I think. But needless to say exciting times yay

Someone, I forget who and where, recently made an excellent point that those who custom make large aquariums and stands are usually very experienced, but not necessarily engineers. With that in mind, I agree you should definitely be absolutely comfortable with the stand you choose to go with the new tank.

Hello,

Sorry my dear friends been just crazy busy with work and trying to maintain some sleep. But with out further adew, yay updates even thought not many.

So my lights will be here at the end of next week, yay so excited. I’m thinking these lights would be great for like a disco room to dance in. Not only they have the light effect, but you will get a sun tan. Well they don’t have that disco look, I would have to try and make it do that somehow. I have found a few places in Boise willing to build me a stand and wow it’s like a quarter of the cost. I want to use a hard wood/natural and was thinking oak, or maple wood, any suggestions? After much thought I also plan on having the front and sides as access doors. If I ever wanna change sumps then I can drain and slide it out. But so far my stand custom built is only about 650 which is not too bad I think. The stock stand I can select that comes with it is like 1300 and it’s so meh. Any suggestions for those who have done this more than me.

Speaking of sumps (and not the porcelain kind) Elite Aquatics (Ogden, Utah) makes some very nice ones and will do custom orders (through his Facebook page). I think he quit selling direct on his web site because he now supplies other online vendors like Premium Aquatics, etc. You can look at some of the sumps he has made on his Facebook page. Tyler Christensen is the owner and is great to deal with. He built my 40" sump and I like to recommend him when I can. So, just a suggestion when you are shopping for sumps.

+1 to Elite Aquatics sumps. I have two of them and love them!

@jolt and @Fin I will definitely reach out to them as soon as I don’t work almost a 100 hours in a week. They definitely have my attention and even if they are a little more money, since the quality is soo nice, it would just be so worth it. Plus I can have one made the way I want lol. It will be super super easy to do anything, except for one to pee in. :)

Maybe one of these for the little guys next to the tank. :)

It would be cheaper to put one of these next to the stand with a hose running into the sump.
