In getting a plan put together for my upcoming tank upgrade, I'm curious about quarantining new and existing inverts with regard to uronema.

What is the likelihood of this being carried in on snails, shrimp, corals etc?

Understanding fallow wont eliminate uronema, what can be done to lower the risk?

I haven't experienced the joy of uronema in a dt and I hope to keep it that way!

Thanks!

Uronema is a free swimming parasite. It could be carried in the "water" with incoming inverts. Especially some of the snails that "carry" a bit of water within their shells, like nerites. I dip corals, and rinse shrimp, snails, nems, etc. with the QT tank water where they are going to placed for 76 days.

That's my protocol now, I'm just searching (wishing, hoping) for a more thorough approach.

If there was a U. marinum present within the water contained within a shrimp or snail, I suspect rinsing it may not neccessarily remove it.

Will coral dips kill uronema? Could it be present within the tissue of corals and evade a dip?

Just pondering, I expect these things might not be known.

I've said it before, parasites suck

If uronema was inadvertently on a coral/invert, it would be loosely attached and not encysted in any way. So, a good rinsing should wash any parasites with a direct life cycle (brook & uronema). However, this strategy wouldn't work to remove encysted ich/velvet tomonts. I do not know what impact, if any, coral dips have on fish parasites.
