I have looked over the forums but can’t really find an answer for my question, all relates to usin cable 50 feet or so. I am just wondering if I can use a regular male/female USB cable if i am only going like 6 feet?

You'll be fine. The reason for more hits on long runs is that longer cables often have repeaters built into them that can harm the Aquabus devices.

If you don't have it bookmarked already, the Neptune documentation is a great first resource.

USB 2.0 and better is recommended (I'm not sure why I always read that USB 1.0 wasn't recommended) And as Breadman said, no repeaters allowed.

totally understand. I had a couple 25' cables made without repeaters because it was so much cheaper than my other options

Say you had a pile of USB cables and you co-mingled the aquabus cables with standard USB cables. Is there an easy way to identify the aquabus cables?

They’re one and the same. You only have to worry about super long cables that might contain a repeater.
