Use to be my refuge from stress

What have I done? This used to be a place of relaxation. Then, I add this tank to add to my relaxation.

However, it turns out I have added a source of stress to my refuge.... [emoji19]

Well looking at other tanks with swaying coral and darting fish and working shrimp and CUC. That is what got me interested. I was like, that will be relaxing to chill and watch the Marine life

I won't disagree that there are many moments of stress, and that Murphy's Law will take advantage of you whenever it can, and that there is always something to maintain, or buy, or clean, or replace. . . but I will say that when I finally have that free moment to just sit back and gaze in wonder at the little world I created, whatever stress I may have been carrying soon slips away.

I might be in the minority but i find stress relief in the 1 + 2 = 3 problem solving in aquaria keeping. Personal problems tend to involve other people. That in itself makes a solution so convoluted. But in an aquarium there is always a straight forward path to what to do next. Sometimes that path requires research or unwanted work but it is still a path. Failure or success can also be quantified the same way, and can apply that information to next time. Theres a feeling of accomplishment when things go your way. But more importantly an invitation to a challenge when they dont.

Oh not meaning its always simple, sometimes the answer solves more like indefinite integral. But at least there is a process you understand.

But sometimes solving people problems turns out to be 1 + apple = batman lol

+1 - In this hobby you have to be a bit stubborn, and there is so much to learn (a lot of the time the hard way). I had to make a lot of mistakes before I started to get the hang of it. But now that I am on the down-slope of the learning curve (took me over 1.5 years and am still learning), I get so much satisfaction with my healthy fish and growing corals. The wife and I sit on a couch in front of our 165 Gal reef almost every night "gazing in wonder at the little world we created" (paraphrasing Sierra_Brav). There were many times that I thought that the hobby would break me, but now it is one of the biggest joys in my life.

The difficulty I see is perspective.
