So this add came up and it’s 27 miles away from my… SOO close… so tempted.

Asking $450, I asked and she said the tank is 3 years old, I’m waiting for her to tell me what brand the tank is and why she’s passing it up…

But if she accepts Venmo or something similar; should I snatch this? Or pass?

What are the dimensions? It looks wrong for a 90 but it could just be different dimensions than a standard 90.

3 years (IMO) isn't that old if the tank is in good condition/has been taken care of.

It doesn't appear to be high dollar equipment (lights are Popbloom or Phlizon likely) but if it's a 90 it's probably worth at least that since it's running. Not going to be easy to move necessarily but the corals appear to be easy corals so they should be fine.

Idk what these are

Viparspectra. Similar to the Popblooms and Phlizon. I think they're a little higher quality but still an inexpensive Chinese black box LED. Vipars and Phlizon are both decent and grow corals, they're just not expensive.

Likely a 165 watt.

I’ll have to talk to my dad about it— I guarantee he’ll say no, but doesn’t hurt to ask!

I’d probably have to get those 15 gallon water jugs from Walmart and rubbermaids… god.
It would be a nightmare but I think I could do it at the same time- too much faith in myself.

Definitely would be scraping my Pennie’s together for this. I’m shocked how quick money goes when you sit on sale threads :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

That's why I stopped shopping and just learned to hang out. All the fun, none of the bills! Also none of the pretties though...

Looks like a good, budget set up, better than what I have :winking-face-with-tongue: I'd at least go look at it. Plus, you would be taking a burden off the lady who lost her husband. (I'm getting older and my wife is 8 years younger, you do the math. I hate the thought of leaving her with tanks she knows nothing about. I wish she had interest in the hobby, but she just likes to look. Wow, now I'm bumming myself out...)

Hey man you have a LONG way to go :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:
Besides, plenty of time to get her hooked !

Yeah I was really excited about it- but my dad said no. So it’s a no I guess. (He says no to Everything that’s why it’s better to ask for forgiveness in this house.)

Sucks because it’s Such a steal!! I hope that woman finds someone else who can take it before the tank crashes… looks like he had a lot of stock in there.

In the meantime, I’ll start saving for Black Friday sales and get a bigger tank then. :smiling-face-with-halo:

Curious, what is your dad’s sticking point? Not wanting to buy used? Or skittish of online transaction sketchiness? Because IMO for a minor with probably limited income, you are missing out on the best way to get good gear at a reasonable price. Reef tanks and gear are like cars… they lose 25% or more of their value as soon as you fill it up. Did your dad help you buy a used car when you turned 16 (or will he if you aren’t there yet)? I venture to guess a brand new car is not in the picture for you (unless you’re one of those kids…)

Edit: I know not every 16 year old kid gets a car at all, but hopefully the analogy still makes sense.

I’m actually 28 :grinning-face-with-sweat: :face-with-tears-of-joy: I bought my own car, so I’m good! Sorry for making it sound like I’m 15; that’s kind of just my living situation. Being unmarried in my family drops your standing dramatically.

Normally I don’t ASK for permission— usually he says no, I shrug and do it anyway because I’m an adult. :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing: …but there’s no way I can move all that equipment, the tank, stand, and everything by myself.
I think it’s more of the fact that it’s an inconvenience on their part to have put together time out of their day to help me with this.
Which I can understand. It’s a lot of work.

I don’t want to say yes to something I can’t do on my own, unfortunately.

At least if I order a tank it would be crated so I can pick it up and do that much on my own. (Or with the help of people getting paid to help.)

Ahhhhh :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing: Got it. Makes sense. You don’t actually sound 15, but I figured you were just mature for your age. Sorry!

It’s okay! I get asked if I’ve graduated high school yet ALL the time at work :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

But yeah- on one end, it’s a shame but on the other, that also means I can invest in either a custom or pre-designed planet Aquaria or waterbox. :star-struck:
So many options out there.

The capital’s LFS sold a Brand new 32gallon waterbox and stand for $350. I couldn’t believe it. I was an hour too late to snatch that puppy.

Good luck with the new tank. I’ve found 90 gallons is great size. I have to admit I thought it would look bigger when I set it up. My wife was like, it’s huge, and didn’t you say you were getting a 75 gallon? However.
