Used 55 gal water barrel

Hello! This is my first post in here! I used to be in the hobby about a decade ago and am now getting back into it. My question is that someone is selling 55 gallon plastic water barrels on FB marketplace and originally they stored liquid smoke. Do you think this would cause a long term issue? Just want to make sure that if I store RODI water and saltwater that it won't negatively affect my tank. Thank you!

Personally I would be wary of using a used container for water storage, but several people have used them with success. Here is one thread with a similar question where members offered possible prep ideas:

I personally would be nervous with soybean oil I but you can do warm water and bleach and rinse with cold water then use vinegar and water and again cold water rinse and verify both oil film and smell of bleach/vinegar is absent
