I just got this tank to upgrade out of my 34 AIO and while cleaning I noticed these cracks near the top of the overflow box. Is this a concern or is the tank of to use? No crazing and the tank is in great shape other than this. Any help would be much appreciated. I am trying to get this new one up and running this weekend I have all my equipment ready to go until I saw this.

I would say its a pretty significant risk to run any tank with any sort of crack on the main outside panels. You could put some acrylic weld on it and see how it looks after the fact but a crack like that, let alone what looks like two in close proximity to each other, would keep me awake at night.

That's what I was worried about, man every time I get a used tank I get ripped off I am sick of it! Man I really wanted to get this one running oh well.

The crack is pretty high up so it can still be used for something, maybe not a main display tank. Reinforce that area with a 1/4" acrylic patch with some high strength/high impact acrylic weld or glue and use that tank as a quarantine system or frag tank or something similar. Whatever you do to reinforce it is not going to look very pretty which is why I wouldn't use it as a main display tank.

I know a guy that gets cracked aquariums from the Petco and Petsmarts in the area and uses them for aquaponics in his greenhouse, he just takes some silicone and bonds the crack together and then glues a patch on the inside of the tank, sometimes the outside too depending on the size/location of the crack.

Sad part is this was bought to be my main display. I am wondering if Acrylic is worth it

Some folks swear by it, I'm personally in the glass camp though, I like my mag float and razor blade for scraping algae :)

So the tank is going to be in a corner and that crack is at the overflow and that is on the side can it be hidden enough to still use?
