Used hydroponics grow table as frag tank

Hey guys I’m thinking about buying a used hydroponics grow table and use it as a frag tank. My question is:

Are there any harmful chemicals that could have been used on these grow tables that could harm fish or corals? Should I not risk it and just buy new?

You dont know what sort of stuff they used? I would think it would be safe for coral but maybe not inverts. You will need to triple rinse it. Then add water. After a few days, have that water tested just to be safe.

I wouldn’t worry about it being contaminated, anything they used in it shouldn’t stick around, soak it for a week in tap water or RODI if you want to be extra cautious. I’d be more concerned about detritus getting in all those channels on the bottom.

I plan on running carbon and gfo on it for at least a month to be safe

One thing to watch out for is residue from systemic fungicides that are often used in hydroponics applications (often myclobutanil). It can be moderately toxic to algae and aquatic invertebrates. Probably okay if you clean it really well, though...
