There are clear instructions on you tube. The light is connected to controller/ not wireless

Hi
Thanks for replying, it has the dongle so it it is wifi, and only instructions I can find say scan the QR code to connect to the dongle.

So if anyone else is in this same boat as I am and do not have the QR code you have to disconnect your phone from your wifi. Then you will connect to the Kessils wifi. You will see it listed in possible wifi connections after you disconnect from your wifi. Its not listed as Kessil, it will just be your serial number from your dongle. The password is the serial number on the bottom of your dongle written backwards. Take your dongle off before you try and connect and write it down ,its case sensitive. This will allow you to connect to your kessil through the app once you have connected to the Kessil wifi. I have not found a way to connect it to my apex or to connect to it without first turning off my wifi on my phone and then connecting to the Kessils wifi.
Also you will have to hold down the little button on top of dongle while plugged in for 10 seconds to get dongle/light to reboot and erase former setup and allow it to go back into wifi mode.
So for me I would never buy a Kessil again. Its a pretty crap setup for controlling a light.

There are two ways to connect the app to your dongle. Direct connect, as you just did. Which is just that, directly connecting to the dongle using its Wi-Fi antenna. The second is through your router, not directly connected, but on your network. You can, if so inclined, connect to the apex using iota. Most don’t bother with that but it is possible. These are all in the setup instructions and forums available on the inter web. I wouldn’t base your decision to never buy another kessil (or any other product) solely on its connectivity shortcomings as there is a lot of that in this hobby with otherwise great products.

This. IME Kessil is one of the more reliable options when it comes to connectivity.

Plus, realistically, how often does one play with lighting after you have it dialed in? Lighting isn’t really something that needs to be messed around with constantly, there’s really nothing to monitor or alarm. I know some that tie a feed mode to a specific lighting setting, for x amount of time, to show off to visitors or for power down for cleaning but that’s about it.

Yeah, when I connected to the dongle the first time, it took a little while to go through the steps, but that was it. I've changed my lighting intensity and color a few times, but I don't use the app that often. I had an issue when I reset my routers, but I just selected the "quick reload" tab and it connected each time. If we base buying/using products solely based on software alone, then a lot of big names would be on that do not buy list. GHL and EcoTech are at the top of that list for me.
