I was told 1 yr old. It has black vertical seams with clear bottom horizontal. I've never seen that. What do you think?

I don't see anything wrong with it. The tank will need a serious cleaning though .

Have you ever seen the black vertical only like that? It looks like it was resealed with black in just the very portion but maybe the factory does that. Guy seems straight up just looks funny

I know why it's dirty to. Trying to move big tanks and then filling with water to clean is almost impossible by your lonesome.

I would personalty skip it. With a tank that size (or any size really) it's just not worth it, IMO.

It's a 3 hr drive to boot.

I spilled 2 gallons last night changing some smaller tanks and that was a mess. 265 would be catastrophic. I'm not a big fan of used either. The average person won't level it correctly

Probably resealed by someone at one point.

Depends a lot on the price. I had this same tank (though black silicone on all seams) and sold it for $200 after four years. They usually have a manufacture date sticker underneath the top rear trim that is readable through the glass. Ask for a picture of it. Cannot imagine why a one year old tank would require any redone silicone unless it was seriously abused. Also ask for pictures of the two cross braces. They have a habit of cracking over time.

Apparently marineland/perfecto did vertical seams black with clear bottom on a lot of tanks. I've seen pics of several now. It just looks crazy.

I'm guessing it's a Marineland 265..... same tank that the guy I got a stand from 'had' before it split a seam..... which is pretty much what these Marinelands are known for.

Even if it isn't a re-seal job (which I'm guessing it is) I'd stay away from it. Other tanks may be more expensive etc..... but how much does it cost to have a 265g tank fail inside your house?

My life after my wife starts spiking my drinks with antifreeze for ruining the whole downstairs in our new house.

The only tank I ever had fail (knock on wood) was a marineland dd. My whole driveway was flooded. Its bad when you start saying "please be a pipe burst please be a pipe burst".

Where the black and the clear silicone meet, do they blend together, or is it a definitive stop and start. If it was applied at the same time, I would imagine there would be some mixing there. If one stops and the other starts, I would assume it is a reseal and I would personally pass.

I would pass anyways. A new one is not that much more, and will be the cheapest part you buy. (My personal experience).

Once I found out it was a marineland I was done.

I've been looking at planet aquariums mega matrix. Good pricing online but I wonder what the markup is from a local shop they sell to is.

People say good things about glass cages, and I think custom acrylic or something like that...... have you thought about just putting in dimensions and having one made?

EDIT: or is it customaquariums.com ??????

Custom aquariums does good work but is expensive.

Glass cages is all over the place with dependability. Good pricing though. I personally haven't owned one of there tanks. The price of a 240 there is very tempting though

what are you looking for? Volume for fishies...... certain size/shape? do you have a place you are wanting to put it? etc..... I find (although I didn't necessarily go this direction) when I see a tank that was custom built, even if not a unique shape/layout etc.... to fit seemlessly in a space, even if it's a 50g tank vs a 300g one..... they have that great 'wow' factor. Of course I have the same feelings about rimless peninsula tanks...... so I guess I'm a little all over the place!

Room for fish. I made some mockups and the fish I want at adult size make my 180 & 210 look small. I plan to upgrade in a few yrs but if life gets in the way I want them to be comfortable. I think a 240 is perfect but trying to find one for under $2k is tricky.

I want an emporer & a big puffer. Here recently I've fell in with a stars and stripes puff which is like having a living football in your tank.

The guy selling (and willing to ship, not sure where you are though) the 400g acrylic tank here seems like a good deal..... you might want to massage him on the price a bit, and perhaps be prepared to buff-it-new-and-shiny though...... but it's a 1" thick acrylic..... I wish I had seen it, I may have changed my build plans!

I'd be in heaven.....
