Eight asked somebody this question but never got an answer so I would like to put it out there I am getting a used tank it is currently a reef coral tank with live sand and Bristol worms my question is even if the person cleans it out extremely well and I take it from him will it be ok for my seahorses i’m a little nervous because he keeps the tank in the 80° area and I will probably be keeping it between 67 and 70 it has coral growing on the back of the glass Should I worry about that trying to grow back and also will the plumbing he has be safe to use or should I replace what he is using plumbing wiseI have never had to deal with coral and growth before so this is all so new to me to make this big upgrade for my seahorses any advice would be totally appreciated

personally i would probably not use a live system for sea horses, the chances of the tank having things like hydroids Or other nasties, or corals that could harm the sea horses would have me start dry.

But i havent kept sea horses in a very long time, and we used a wet/dry filter so my experience is probably out of date.

If it were me I first would find out how old the tank is and check the silicone for damage. Anything over 6 years I would cut out and re caulk.( Just My opinion) as I dont want to have to deal with a leak sometime in the future. With that being said I would clean the tank well with peroxide or "bar keepers friend" and clean the glass with a razor blade but watch the silicone so you dont cut into it and rinse it very well. Then i would re-plumb upgrade the filtration and go from there. I have made tanks like new again doing this and it works very well.

Chances are, you will need a chiller unless your house is cold. I would not worry about the plumbing... you could always kick out the rocks and clean the back of the tank with hydrogen peroxide to get it back to new. Didn’t you just get a 150 for seahorses? I think you’ve got the bug! LOL ;)
