Used Tanks ... What to look for?

Hello All,

I am fairly new to the hobby, my current DT is acrylic and, the only experience I have with glass tanks are of the one I just cracked. Lol

Everything seemed to be ok with the new tank I bought but, I realized I just kind of glanced over it then paid the guy. (THE CRACK WAS MY FAULT)

With that being said and with the new tank being a no go, I am on the hunt for another new glass rimless tank. I found a pretty good deal on a Redsea Reefer 425 XL and, wanted your guys tips on what to look for when buying pre-owned.

Having bought many used tanks, I recommend that you see the tank filled with water with your own eyes. If you can’t do a leak test then consider paying only what you would pay if it had a leak. Other than that inspect the tank for chips, scratches, and look at the silicone. Good luck!

It really doesnt take long to fill up and drain with tap water. If they are hesitant that could be your sign.
