If anyone has been in this hobby (or possibly just getting in), we've purchased a used (running or not) system. How many have used the original bulkheads that came with the used setup? Any drawbacks or anything you would have done differently (new bulkheads or new gaskets)? What's your opinion on standard vs heavy duty bulkheads too.

Thanks y'all

I spent weeks setting up my used but new to me tank/system to find a leaking bulkhead after two weeks of wet testing. spent two days tearing plumbing out and replacing the $8 bulkhead.
Learn from my mistake.

...got these used but didn't think to test them, you can just make out a hairline crack... They were stuck together with Teflon tape which I removed cleaned and used potable water sealant on all PVC threaded fittings but this one just started to drip.

Have a box full of left over plumbing parts so not a big deal to replace it's just a pain in the rear!

Lol. Music to my ears y'all. All these are the gray heavy duty bulkheads and are a pain to just find gaskets for them. I assume (just cause no other guesses) that the heavy duty ones were used because of the closed loop. They didn't appear to be leaking but I've been down that road as well, just wanted to hear from the support group. Also, the previous owner used plumber's putty.

Most pool supply store have them, I have a local underground pool company I get them from.

Tried used being a newb once..yeah ended up tearing down for a leaky seal a week later not worth it

Agreed, spend a few bucks up front and order them if you can't find em locally. Never know what kind of stress might have been put on them in the past.

Well I just ordered 9 new heavy duty bulkheads. That would replace all the old ones. Probably didn't need heavy duty but can't hurt
