Hello I was just wondering if any one has ever made use of the skim from their skimmers?

I have recently started a copepod (bucket?)
Lol

it’s a 5 gallon bucket from Home Depot and I put water change water in it a live rock and sea lettuce in it with a bubbler and it sits under a light
Seeded with maybe 20 or so copepods from my display i thought they had died off
Well I decided to try putting my skim into the bucket to see if they liked the crud that’s in it
It’s been 5 days and I have hundreds of them now If not thousands sense the rock is probably covered idk that I needed to add the skim but I know that I did and it hasn’t hurt any thing any one els try this?

Hmmm, I would love images.

I have added skim to my micro algae tank awaiting results.

I had (well, still have) a massive ball of chaeto. I had to go from a sump to an hob due to a tank move and didn’t want to get rid of my ball. I figure I can start trading it to some lfs for whatever, so I put it in a 10 gal I had sitting around and feed it with one cup of skim a week. It’s growing like gangbusters with an old 30w greenevo 6500k led light I had from an old vivarium. Pods are still going crazy in there too.

Can you document with some pictures of your setup? I'm super curious. **following**

I like these ideas people keep them coming!

for me I Have always had a refurgium and I love the idea that nothing goes to waste for a while I grew only ogo and took it to my lfs to feed the tangs! The owner loved it haha
But I switched to dragon’s tongue when it started to out compete and I liked the look
So to be able to use the skim to feed pods I will then feed to fish is awesome to me
And to be able to give fellow reefers pods when needed is a target I intend to hit as a few weeks ago I was in need of some my self!

The orange is the set up super simple literally used a rock that was dead placed in a bucket of water from a water change added some sea lettuce and a bubbler on low so it gives a little movement The clear is a jar I put some water in to see

Before I set up the spare 10 gal for my chaeto ball, I dumped it in a Home Depot 5 gal bucket with a power head and the same light I’m using on the tank. I was still dumping skim in it. It went to the bucket because I also hate to waste things, especially something that takes time and money to grow. Make it work for you if you can.

Back when I was breeding pipefish and things, I had a couple of big Brute containers full of mixed copepods such as Tigriopus and Apocyclops together with Moina salina that I primarily fed skimmate. Worked great!
