ushio 20k 250watt DE bulb..looking for info

Does anyone have any knowledge about these bulbs? How is the color and does anyone know the PAR value??? I have magnetic hqi ballast and run phoenix bulbs right now...

I switched to the ushio 20k from the pheonix and I love them, the pheonix was so monotone this bulb has blue purle and white. The corals seem to like it as well.

I personally like the color. It is blue with a tinge of green. It will show off fluorescent pigment better than a more intense 20K like the Radium. It requires an M80 Pulse start ballast or electronic. Here is more info http://www.ushio.com/files/specs/Aqualite.pdf Par value depends on reflector type and depth. It is a good bulb. I use the 150w DE for aquaculture.

I am ready to change my DE 250w bulbs and been thinking of using these bulbs. My first choice was the Radium but there not avalible in 250w DE. Im using 10k now and have great growth so Im hoping the 20k will continue the growth rate and add the color that Im not getting with my current 10k's.

I like the Ushio 20K better than the Phoenix bulb. It is a more natural actinic color.

I have used the Ushio 20k 250 DE's for about a year. I really like the color and the growth rate is good. I have used the DE Radium 150 and the Phoenix as well. I know that their can be a differance due to the wattage but based on what I have seen, I like the Ushio's better overall.

i hope i made the right choice it was a toss up between the ushio de 20k and the EVC (helios) DE 20k. I went with the EVC guess I will see but I was in the same situation as you guys just bored of the phoenix.

We've run them on IceCaps for years. Best bulb for the buck, IMO. We have also used them for a few years on a clients tanks using Hamilton HQI ballasts, and they have a fantastic color. These bulbs tend to hold their color evenly, for the longest period of time also. This is fairly important when you've got two or three bulbs over the same tank. Most others have a tendency to be very different colors after a few months, but Ushios are pretty much identical.
