I run an ATO with Kalkwasser. I would like to try a Kalk paste to ride my tank of some shrooms.
Could I please get some advice on the best way to use the paste?
I already have a bucket of RO without Kalkwasser to replace the other during kalk paste treatment.

I do not think kalk paste would work that great for shrooms. you would have to use a lot to kill just one shroom. I have tried it in the past and it did not work well.

I have used Mrs Wages Pickling Lime with 100% success many of times.

You're outnumbered Dtech. ;) How many mushrooms and how much lime did it take?

Unless you're coming over to do mushroom extermination, we'd like details!!

I took two teaspoons and added rodi water and made it just like aiptasa x thickness and applied it the same way.
1) turned off all power heads and return pumps
2) used a 5ml syringe
3) 2 teaspoons of Mrs lime

Take a small bowl add the two teaspoon of lime (you can increase the amount depending on how much in need but going low (2 teaspoons) won't have a diverse effect on your tank.

Make paste so that you don't clog the syringe but not runny. Then apply the center of the mushrooms 1/4-1/2ml and leave sit for 30-40 min.
Turn power heads on low and slow till back up to required use.
Repeat if needed at next water change. I've have 1-2 process meaning on nickel to quarter size mushrooms first time kill bigger second application in the center in the mouth 100% success.
Hope this helps.

Inject the mushrooms with vinegar...will take them out!! Vacuum off residual in a few hours.

I used joes juice for aptaisia on a mushroom. Punctured it right into the top it was gone within minutes.

I squirted lemon juice directly into mouth of mushrooms in my tank and it knocked the crap out of them. Not claiming complete elimination BUT def significant reduction quick!

Darryl:

Excellent recipe! That should be a sticky in the chem. forum IMO!

FWIW, I don't think I was brave enough to leave it alone for 30-40 min. :) May have to give that another shot!

Isn't this kalk? Or do you have to add vinegar? Forget

Yes this is Kalk but when using it for mushrooms and aiptasa I use just rodi water. I'm not looking for the chemical reaction that vinegar brings out when using in my ATO.

I just do 3-4 mushroom at a time and I've never had a spoke or side death of other corals. Oh I have 75gallom MD with a 55gallon Refugium total water volume is 110gallons. But low and slow is the best way to go with this.

Idk if anyones still around on this thread but, I’m battling a few nightmare corals soon in my virgin tank. GSP/ Green paly/ Pink shrooms/ aiptasia/ and the least solved: hydroids. Im mostly focusing on controlling and killing hydroids and aiptasia without sacrificing the tank. ive learned a lot about their feeding/ strengths/ weaknesses and more. ive successfully
let a colony grow to medium size and soaked them in Aiptasia-X during reduced circlation feeding and fired a first shot of .5-1ml shot thru syringe; 75-85% effective. second shot under same conditions 4-5 days later; resulted in full death of said colony. the area also got scraped by a pencil urchin(ID needed). they clear anything of any algae (from kelp and dynos to coralline and others) The tanks entire hydro pop has nearly died since, despite my infintile dosing sched (thisll work i bet) of a 2 part and red seas reef energy. (im also assuming im slightly under dosing). im lost cause i just got a pair of large eagle eye zoa’s that exposed large thin tall bluish hydroids in between polyps all over after coralRX. Came from an established reputable petco ive had more than expected success with (40% success in 15 items). These hydroids are visibly different from my colorful green yellow short thicker hydroids. ive since quarentined and will return the infected livestock but still... I need better solutions for hydriods. Any wisdom out there other than Petco sells reef poison?
