I've just set up a Mars Aqua 300 Watt LED i was previously using to light my old tank to now light my refugium.

I'm wondering if i need both lights on as they take two power cables.

There is a switch for the blue lights and one for the white lights.

Would one or the other be able to grow Cheato or would I need both on?

Plants love red light best, white or full spectrum otherwise. Blue lights are the “worst” as far as plant lighting goes so def use the whites. If you aren’t seeing growth, you can try a $20ish red/white refugium light from amazon instead or even a grow light/full spectrum from Home Depot.

Thank you very much. I've got the white light on 1 hour before my main display turns off now. I'm going to order some cheato and put it in there soon.

Plants do not prefer red light....unless you are trying to grow your dope plants taller. The guy making that comment probably doesnt own a reef tank. Red and blue light are both equally effective at macro growth.

The dual socket Mars aqua units are annoying, which is my I combined both sockets on mine. Or, just cut two power cords and splice them into one.

I would run both channels at 1/2 power for longevity reasons.
