Bit of an emergency and didn't have a tank big enough to quarantine all the fish in the display. Bought a 30 gallon heavy duty storage tote from home depot to qt all the fish for ich. has anyone else used a tote to qt fish?. is it safe?

It's safe as long as it doesn't bow out. You can always put a strap around the perimeter to hold it tight. I've used those to cure rock for months.

lol definitely need a strap. thing is bowing out.

It's safe given what others have said but the only issue you'll run in to is it's harder to observe the fish and the disease symptoms.

I would guess they're stackable, in that case you could buy another one and stack them together. The only concern would be the one with water holding up during the lifting and moving (maybe a helper with the lifting would be good to distribute the forces).

Sounds like either way this is better than nothing. Why not just get a tank such as this one http://www.petsmart.com/fish/suppli.../aqueon-glass-aquarium-31896.html?cgid=300065 it's only $20 more than what you spent on the tub?

Needed something bigger than a 20 gallon. Currently have about 5 fish in there.

Thanks for the advice. I was 3 weeks into quarantining a yellow tang when I noticed the blue hippo has ich in the display. Now I have to start all over again. Definitely hard to see the white spots need to get an actual fish tank eventually

Just to let you know... I was in Petco last night, and the manager there told me that they were having another $1 per gallon sale starting this coming Sunday (April 2nd). So it might be a good time for you to run in there and get you a 40 or even a 75 gallon to use for QT and/or tank emergencies that leave you needing something to put all of your fish and coral in.
I was able to score a 75 and two 40 gallons in their last $1 per gallon sale. They are empty right now, but at least I'll have them on hand if I ever need them for an emergency in the middle of the night when everything is closed.

I quarantined for 60 days and ich came back lol I'll just live with it
For ich, the quarantine/fallow period in your tank needs to be at least 76 days or the ich will not die out completely and indeed your fish will become reinfected.

You say 76 others say 90 I say o well. All it takes is is a coral plug or snail with some dormant ich and it will be back

True. Coral pieces, coral plugs and snail shells can be carriers of unwanted disease and hitchhikers. That's why proper quarantine procedure is to quarantine both fish AND coral. I have TWO QT tanks. One for fish one for coral. ALL coral get a dip and then go into QT before entering my main display tank.

*** I am not sure of the glass make up of these Petco tanks, so I would caution against drilling them. My suggestion here is to use them for quarantine and/or temporary emergency situations where drilling is not required, and HOB or canister filtration can be used ***
