I’m finally working on setting up my new tank. I’m using the BRS RODI system and the TDS meter is reading 12-14 TDS on the first gallon or so. I am dumping the first couple gallons but is 12-14 TDS okay for the tank? Do I need to wait until it hits 0?

Instructions: https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/instructions/

"Discarding the first couple gallons of product water allows your carbon blocks to flush any potential fines and preservation oils from the surface of the membranes".

It should output 0 TDS after that if working correctly, with new DI resin.

Yes wait till 0, 12-14 is way too high, that could be 12 ppm of metals you are adding, also check the manual as many rodi systems need you to flush the membrane for 1 hour before using as they come with a food preservative on them, the BRS maybe not require this, but you need to check.

Yea I plan on throwing away the first 3 gallons at least. It’s slowly starting to come down. Thanks for the input.

So I’m a moron. I had the TDS meter reading the water coming in to the system. Once I switched it to “out”, it’s reading 0.

As stated above it’s good practice to bypass the di and dump the first few gallons everytime. I put in a T prior to my DI and open that first. This way the extra tds doesn’t burn through your DI faster. Also the in and out should be before the di and after. I run my bypass till I get to 4/5 out of membrane (in) then I’ll run through the DI
