Using Calcium Oxide ( CaO ) as Kalkwasser ?

As the title stated, I have some Calcium Oxide ( CaO ) left in hand at the moment, can I use it to mix with vinegar and water to create kalk solution for dripping in tank instead of Calcium Hydroxide ( Ca(OH)2 )- true limewater?

I believe it would be converted to calcium hydroxide if you mixed it with water.

It may get hot, so it might be safer/easier to just buy some pickling lime instead. I would Not add water to to CaO, but add the powder to water instead.

I used calcium oxide to make limewater for many years. Only difference is it generates some heat when it gets wet.
