I have a 29 gallon that has been running for about 7 months. It looks fine and the fish and inverts are doing ok, 2 oce clowns 4 damsels a 6 line 1 lta, 2 sally lightfoot and a emerald crab, and some zoas. My question is Im using a hob filter on it and was wondering if I need to remove the carbon out of the filter pads. Im a noob to salt but have had fresh for many years. My pride is a 150 tall fresh tank, that I would like to convert at some time to a reef. Just asking ?'s

For small system you may want to look into getting an all in one filter media bag. Chemi-pure makes on the best ones. Just make sure you keep up with changing it out every couple of months

You don't have to remove the carbon out of the filter pads. Many reefers use carbon to help clean their tanks. An all-in-one media bag is more convenient though. I use a HOB filter on one tank and I just have the carbon in a separate mesh bag that I change out monthly.
