If I were to take sand and water from my 55 gallon and put it in an 8 gallon cube would I still need to cycle the tank? I am going to use dry rock but was curious if I still need to cycle.

I’ve taken water and some rock from One of my main tanks and put it in a new but I’ve never used sand form one to the other. But still had to cycle.

Yes there will still be some sort of cycle. But it will be much shorter then without using the sand
I already have the rock, if I put it in the sump of my 55 for a week before the tank gets here would I be good to go then? I want to move my goby over so I can see him more

Moving rocks or sand from one to a newly setup system will speed up and potentially sees the new tank
I have set up many new tanks using rocks and water from a established tank .
but there was always a small ammonia spike or mini cycle .
