Hey All,

I did something really dumb this week. I usually use my generic refractometer under room fluorescent lights and I can see the scale just fine. I recently updated the generic refractometer to a D-D seawater refractomer, and this unit has a very small scale and requires more light than my flourescent to read it. I know that natural sunlight is the best source, but it was dark out, so I viewed this refractomer with my right eye under an AI Sol LED (maybe 5-6" below the whites). I may have look into the refractometer for around 20-30 seconds. Immediately afterwards, my right eye vision became blurry. This blurry vision has now lasted almost 3 days and will not go away and I've always been 20/20. I don't know if this is pure coincidence or I may have damage my eye. I have a doctor's appointment this week, so I will find out, but just wanted to know from others who may have experienced the same. If anything, just to share that this practice of using LED as a light source for a refractometer may not be the best idea. Thanks for your response.

Bro you better go to an eye doctor ASAP, you could of wiped out your cover over your retna. Dont mess around with that seriously

I would've never thought that could be an issue. Please keep us posted as to how things turn out.

I to have been pondering the advers affects of high powered led lights espcially the blue and violet spectrums. I feel like my eyes have been more sensitive to light and not as clear as they used to be. I'm wondering if I have damaged my eyes as well from led lights. I'm going to get my eyes looked at soon and talk to the optimalogist about it. Good luck with your eye hope things come around for you.

Hope your eye is ok, I always use my leds as the light source for mine!!! I don't think I will anymore though! But I haven't really held it up directly, I just look straight ahead, not up. Good luck with the eye! :)

sorry for late update. went to ophthalmologist a few days after incident. brought the refractometer along & told dr. what happened. he never seen instrument before so i showed him how it works. he said he doesn't think it caused my eye problem, but i know for a fact that my right eye became blurry, vision smaller/darker immediately after pointing the refract up to the white led. the dr. ran a bunch of tests including all kinds photos and dye. he said i have central serous retinopathy which is basically fluid leakage under the retina. told me to wait a month to see if it will go away on its own, if not then shot in eye to get rid of fluid. well its been 2 months now and still same blurry vision in right eye. im gonna see another dr for 2nd opinion next week. been running these leds for 2 yrs now and also notice eyes much more sensitive. careful with leds guys.

Hope you feel better. On another note I got sick of looking at mine and bought a digital Milwaukee and it is amazing. Not that I think it is the cause but I had a hard time seeing mine.
