Has anyone else tried using sodium hydroxide (NaOH) to scrub c02 in their tank via attached to the protein skimmer. Saw another user on here used NaOH in liquid form attached to his protein skimmer. Lots of articles on soda lime increasing PH. Curious if this can be achieved with sodium hydroxide using the same method.

Should have paid attention in chemistry class. :(

"NaOH (sodium hydroxide), when exposed to the air, will react with the carbon dioxide in air, to form sodium carbonate" - (http://www.monashscientific.com.au/NaOH.htm)

The end of the reaction will result in sodium carbonate which is the same as soda ash?

It is not a good way to go for tank addition, IMO, (because it boosts alk, and so is the same as limewater/kalkwasser except it adds no calcium; but being so potentially concentrated, overdosing alk is all too easy), but is OK for making a solution and running skimmer air through it before it gets to the skimmer.
