I just replaced my old water filtration/softener for my house and I am wondering if anyone has every used these resin tanks before for aquarium filtration. I have two, both 65 inches tall and have a removable cap to change resin or contents. Was thinking about making a massive GFO or carbon reactor setup. Or even something else. Looking for suggestions or experience doing this.

Are you suggesting using it as a media reactor? or for RODI conditioning?
For me what makes these tanks attractive for water softeners is that the media can be recharged inside the tank, allowing for a simple automation process using brine to recharge the resin.
Correct me if I'm wrong, GFO can be recharged with sodium hydroxide and GAC can be baked to sort of recharge it.
I guess you can automate recharging GFO, but I would have to defer to the exports to know if it can be done the same way as a water softener. If you were to use that canister for something like carbon you will have a hefty task in front of you when it's time to refill it.
