Using poly-fill in filter cups

I recently decided I was tired of staring at a filter sock in my tank that I never touched. I ordered filter cups around a year ago to match my build and I never actually put them to use.

I am happy I did because today I changed it for the first time and it was pretty easy.

I am coming to ask why my skimmer freaks out when I first add the poly fill. Today I didn’t realize and managed to overflow my skimmer cup. Is there anyway to prevent this?

I think it's from the detergent used on the polyfil during manufacturing. Try rinsing the floss before adding it to the media cup.
