Hey everyone! I plan on setting up a new tank and using pond expansion foam with a mixture of crushed coral and PVC piping to make an aquascape instead of rock. Has anyone tried this? Any cons to this idea?
I used it with live rock to make a thin vertical wall to hide my overflow. I covered all the exposed foam with sand. Some one continually picks at the foam removing all the sand and keeping corals from spreading to it. They have picked at it so much over the years the foam is now very thin in places. My guess is it is close to 10 years old. The only other disadvantage is it wants to float up. Even now with probably 50% less foam than it had originally. You will definatly have to glue yours in place without the weight of any rock.
It is on my list to redo it using just rock. I picked up to decent sized 1" thick pieces of marco rock at RAP recently that I plan to massage a little to make the outer side have more shape and not look cut as it does currently.
