I been using rain water in my fish only tank, a friend of mine that have a 600G tank said that is ok. Some people say that is not good to use, that I should use tab water with a ROD filter.

Rainwater is not good to use because of all the crap that is going to be in it, your best bet is to just buy a RODI unit.

This.

That is what someone told me but they can't tell me what is all the crap in rain water. Does anyone know?

The same stuff that is in the air. Rain passes through pollution and who knows what else before reaching the ground.

Honestly there is too much to list and it would change depending on where you live but for basics most rainwater is acidic, will be full of agricultural run off and pollutants. These things will lead to algae issues and livestock die offs.

I know of people who use rainwater OK. My biggest concern with rainwater would be the collection system. Asphalt roof tiles, for example, will release stuff to the water.

Not to mention that rain is the atmospheres' cleaner.....if you owned a pool you would also know that acid rain is real. I buy the largest quantity of soda ash (pH Plus) they sell (I think 5o pounds), to adjust my pH back up at the beginning of the season.

I'd also be curious what the TDS reads on rain water......I would guess it would vary on the pollution of that day.

I wouldn't use it!
