I received a bucket of salt that was broken and spilled all over the shipping box. I got the salt replaced, no problem, but before I throw it out - could we use it in our saltwater pool? I’m guessing not
Since it isn’t straight salt but figured I’d ask. It’s Red Sea Coral Pro

Somebody may a have a reason not too, but I can't think of any.

Not like some magnesium and calcium is gonna hurt anybody. Would't think it would hurt the pool either.

True, it definitely wouldn’t hurt it. I just don’t know if it would be effective in the chlorine generator either!

I can't think of any reason why not to do so since it is intended to mimic the ocean.

It should still work in the chlorine generator since it still contains mostly sodium chloride. If I understand correctly, chlorine generators use electrolysis to break down sodium chloride into chlorine and sodium (I'm not sure how the sodium gets used in the chemistry, though).

Just make sure the temp of the bucket of salt MATCHES the temp of the pool

The only issue you should have with the salt being used in a pool would be all of the additives, magnesium, iron, and the metals will oxidize and they cause common stains in swimming pools, being that it’s such a small amount it should not affect it really, in any way in the real world, but technically speaking, that would be your only concern, I have used pool salt to keep salt, fish alive as well, it’s just salinity really, the amount of salt needed for a salt generator is roughly 10 times less than ocean water so as long as the salinity is within ranges for operation on the salt generator, it should be no issue
