Using sand from old system to cycle?

I have a 60 gallon that I'm breaking down to a 25 gallon cube with a sump. Can I use my old sand in the sump fuge to cycle faster, along with some of my live rock?

Sure can. My only suggestion is to rinse the living heck out of it (sand) with clean water from the 60 first. Think of it a seeding your new system so much as faster cycling...
