Using the Hanna Copper test kit with Cupramine

I could use a little help in converting my test results to the recommended dosage of Cupramine.

It's a 10-gallon hospital tank with a Valentini Puffer showing signs of Ich.

I added 20-drop 2-days ago and another 20-drops 48 hours later, as noted in the instructions. Based on that dosing it should give me 0.5mg/L

However, my Copper reader gave me a .23 ppm result.

So I'm trying to figure out how to convert that into the recommended dosage of Cupramine.

The number is right. The checker reads both ionic and cheated copper.

I read that thread but it really doesn't explain how you get to the Cupermine dosing recommendation using the Hanna checker. Is there a calculation/conversion chart to figure this out?

Cupramine is ionic with a therapeutic range of 0.4-0.5 ppm copper.

Copper Power and Coppersafe are Chelated with therapeutic range of 1.5-2.0 ppm.

Disregard what the bottle says for Cupramine and dose according to the Hanna Checker to get 0.4-0.5 ppm.

Most of us have switched to Copper Power as it’s been spot on.

Coppersafe has been inaccurate and there’s been a few reports about Cupramine too. Honestly, Cupramine is a lot more harsh on fish and requires a longer ramp period. I’d switch to Copper Power when you can.

Hate to revive an old thread, but what was the result of this? I am having the same issues. Double dose of cupramine got me to .23ppm. Did the OP switch or did you have to use ?x the dose to get .5ppm?

I would not be certain that the Hanna checker reads cupramine correctly, although it might. While Seachem don’t say exactly what cupramine is, it may not fit the needs of the Hanna.

I have the Seachem copper test kit they recommend, but it’s a pain to read. Trying to match the colors isn’t a very accurate way of dosing. That’s why I got the Hanna. I guess I’ll be switching to copper power like everyone else after this. Lol
