Hi, I'm contemplating changing my aqua-scape and have been offered previously used reef rock, its dry and been in storage for some time.
What are the steps I should follow if I choose this route, or should I stay clear? Thx

it leaves you open to "algae" issues since theres no life on the rock. If you must do it, maybe keep the rocks in a small tank for a bit with some established media and some fish food. This will help seed them.

Cleaned and then dried, or just dumped outside?

muriatic acid or bleach - newer at same time - will quickly clean rock, good rinsing and you are ready to go....

Agreed, I will bleach and cycle the rock as part of the normal process, just wondering if theres something else I need to be aware of. Thnx

I'd have to assume just put to one side and left.

I prefer using old true live rock from tank breakdowns that has been dried out. I power wash it, then I do a couple of bleach baths, 1 week each where I change the water. I then power wash again and put the rocks in tap water for another week. Then I set them out to dry for a couple days at least, preferably in the sun.

Im sure you don’t have to go as long as I did. But just giving you a recipe that worked for me on some decently dirty rock.

I did this for my 125 that I set up a year ago. I didn’t have any phosphate issues and the rocks are covered in coralline now
