Thinking of using Xenia in my 3 gallon pico to control the growth of algae (I only feed once a week and do 50% water changes but there is a lot of algae) by absorbing nutrients in the water. Will this work? I have zoanthids on the live rock and will use mushrooms to prevent the algae from growing higher.

You can... Xenia is a workhorse keeping nitrates in check in my tank (90 ,gallon). Some put it in their fuge , so in a Pico it would be a similar sort of thing imo. It may grow quite fast, and take over completely ....will it exhaust the nutrients too quickly? This I'm not sure.... I'd pick up a small frag and try it, see how it goes.

It’s nice now worrying about excess nutrients . Xenia has potential to tank over the entire pico tho. Could use some macro algae like dragons breath instead
