I'm sure a lot of people do but I wouldn't consider these sales anywhere near enough to make up the upkeep on a reef. I think it may vary state to state but isn't it illegal to frag and sell coral without an aquaculture license?

Lot's of people do this (I have in the past), but don't expect the sales to make up for the costs. Keeping a reef running is generally not a profitable venture. If you have a large collection of really nice, healthy, colorful corals you can make a little bit back, but when you add up the initial investment, upkeep (salt, additives, electricity, water, etc), turning a profit is difficult for the average hobbyist. It can't hurt to try though;)
