what the heck USPS!!!

I bought some macro algae from a reefer in NJ and it was supposed to be delivered on Wednesday according to the tracking number. I live in GA and for the world, I can't figure out why the package got to Atlanta and then went to Chicago. Anyhow, I checked the tracking status again today and it said that it was delivered around 4PM today and was left in my mailbox. When i got home around 5 and checked my mailbox, there's NOTHING!!! what the heck???

If not a secure mailbox odds are it was stolen. Sad part if that is the case it was probably thrown in the trash since only has value to a hobbyist.

I've been there to have it never show up and few days after it showed delivered it went back to it was undelivered go figure.

I had something similar happen with my clean up crew that I purchased a couple of weeks ago. I was watching the tracking and it said that it had been delivered for and signed for at a PO Box in Raleigh, which is like two and a half hours away from where I live. I call the 800 number and explain to the man on the other end, and he can't figure out what happened, so he says he's going to open a case on it. I explain to him that my concern is that there's live animals in the box, at which point he gave the me the number to a Raleigh post office and the Raleigh post master. Finally get ahold of one of them and they're puzzled too. The lady looked into it farther and called me back a few hours later, it seems that whoever was scanning the package at a sort facility scanned it incorrectly and signed their name  In any event I got my clean up crew as scheduled and all was well. Maybe something similar happened in your case? If someone stole it, won't they be in for a surprise when they open it?

i doubt that it was stolen simply because i had other boxes delivered to me yesterday. Apex, salt, etc. all left in the mailbox or near my front door. also, other mails were in the mailbox yesterday.

what i can't figure out is if the box got to Atlanta and then went up north to Chicago, i don't have faith in them saying that it's delivered when in reality it's still somewhere in transit or truly lost on the way.

It's like hoping on a flight to the west coast from KY and going east to transfer planes first (happened to me quit a few times). I've never understood shipping and how they decide what goes where. I'd say we're fairly lucky lost/misplaced packages don't happen way more often.

I've had them do that to me in the past when the postal carrier forgot to deliver it. Showed up about two days later.

Ironically I probably just bought the same algae from NJ. Shipped on the 12th and took 48 hours to travel 200 miles (14th) arriving a day too late (15th) for me to collect. Resulting in soup on the 17th once I did get them.

More than likely delivered to the wrong house. Call and open a case. More often than not they'll get you your package.

USPS sucks now and the prices aren't any good either.
I used to use them all the time but now they suck in just about every way. I wouldn't ship anything with them now a days, especially something that has to be there within a time frame. I've got tons of stories but I don't have time to get into that.

My guess is also that it went to the wrong house. I've had it happen with every carrier. I've also had plants die due to crazy shipping routes. I ordered plants from California to be delivered to Colorado. They went to Denver, then to Boston, then back to Denver and finally to me arriving several days late in the form of brown mush.

Sorry, I think most packages are insured up to $50, might be worth pursuing.
