Has anyone seen utter chaos zoas that have polyps almost the size of a quarter? I have normal sized chaos zoas from the same colony but the original colony is now full of giant polyps. What's up?

Mine are pretty big. Not the size a a quarter but maybe a penny or nickel. Try aminos.

Mine are the size of a quarter..it has s lot to do with the strain you get

I do use aminos but what is really funny is the one I fragged stayed small as growing more polyps that are equally as small.

Zoas can act funny once fragged, not saying you've been cutting your colony frequently but hackshops that are one polyp kings will generally have smaller colonies with smaller polyps that are more susceptible to disease.. imo
But give it time, I think you have a similar strain of utters to mine based on your description.
The polyp you cut will first form a bunch of sprouts right around her stalk, then the momma gets big and the little sprouts push out from the stalk and begin to grow...
It's a process

The fragged polyp was an overgrowth of the plug. It attached to a rock and I cut it off to remove the plug. I'm not worried but curious to why they do that.

I think it has to do with flow or light or both. I just picked up some utter chaos zoas today from another reefer and he had them in two different locations in his tank, one colony had huge polyps and the other was what would be thought of as normal. Both were large colonies. The only difference was location, both colonies originated from the same colony.

Mine are not quarter size but some around dime sized

The ones I got from you Jason barely open up and the ones that are open are the size of... well much smaller than when I got them. [emoji53]

I saw a youtube video from a zoa seller and the topic of UC size was discussed. Don't have the link handy, but they were saying that lower light encourages larger polps. One of those "reaching" for light theories. Seems to make sense and I just picked up some with plans to put it lower for the same reason. My goal is to have polps the size of a small fist. lol. jk
