Uv configuration.

Just about to reinstall my uv onto my new system. Haven't gotten around to it since swapping the tank.

It's a vecton titan 850, which I'll be feeding with a blau 4kdc pump.

Was looking online for flow direction as I know in the manual it's bottom to top, but I wanted to see why, and if I could reverse it as it seems like apart from purging air it wouldn't make a difference.

Anyway, I want to run the pump in the return chamber, and have it return into the first chamber. Logic being that the water is circulated more times through the uv, and it increases flow around the sump. I have a carbon reactor setup the same way, but I came across a site saying this is a bad idea as it reduces flow through the uv.

Any thoughts on this? Anything I should or shouldn't do when it comes to this? I want it on a seperate pump so I can control flow, and I don't want another return direct to the display.

As long as air can't get trapped there isn't necessarily a right or wrong flow direction. You just need to make sure the outflow is elevated so any air can escape.

Couldn't have said it better! It doesn't matter which way it flows, as long as it comes out the top(highest point).

I was specifically asking about plumbing configuration, as in, feed and return from sump chambers, or feed from sump and return to display etc.

I've read that feed and return to sump is less efficient, but I think I've answered this to my own satisfaction, simply by looking at the amount of kit, skimmer, reactors, etc, which all feed and return from and to the sump. No reason why a UV should be any different. I've good throughput through the sump, so I'm happy that it's a useful as I need it to be in the sump.
