Uv filter setup

Hi everyone, I have purchased a fluval uvc filter(in-line) the only pipe it would fit was the input hose on my canister filter. Will it still do its job. I know usually it would be placed on the outlet hose, but I haven't the funds to buy a new filter yet, just worried it won't work. Thanks in advance.

If setup properly and calibrated with the correct flow, you should notice clearer water with less algae within days.
