Looking to install a UV inline Filter. Does the UV filter need to run constantly or is cycling it on for say 8hrs per day adequate?

It depends on what you are trying to accomplish and the flow rate. You want the entire water volume to turn over several times a day in order for it to be affective. You will also need to get the proper flow rate through the sterilizer in order to obtain the correct contact time depending on what you are trying to sterilize.

Thanks for the reply.

We are intending on filtering about 150 gals through the filter. My thought is using a 100 gph pump to feed the filter.
If I run the filter for 8 hrs do you think that would be sufficient?

We are trying to prevent parasitic bacteria from accumulating in the system.

A lot of people turn these off at night. Running it 8 hours a day at 100gph should be fairly effective. You might want to have it on the same schedule as your lights. Make sure you replace the UV bulb annually or sooner they do lose their effectiveness after 6 months of continuous use.
